Women in the Civil WarBefore the Civil War, the roles of women were as housewives, maids, or other jobs. However, they went to the Civil War to be nurses, spies, or in some rare cases, soldiers. Typically, women kept the farms and factories going. They ran offices, taught at schools, or kept government records. They had to work through stress and they struggled to keep their families together. This all changed because of the Civil War.
