Goals & Strategies
The North and South had many goals and many strategies. |
The North wanted to restore the Union and had a strategy of using Winfield Scott's "Anaconda Plan" where they blockade Confederate ports and seize the Mississippi River. They also wanted to capture Richmond, Virginia, which is the capital of the Confederacy. The North's goals changed as the war went on, though. At first, Lincoln did not want to end slavery. As the war went on, however, he decided against it and wanted it abolished.
